Overview

Tokyo Ghoul Episode 3, titled “Dove” (Japanese: Shirohato), follows Ken Kaneki as he begins adjusting to his new life as a half-ghoul. After struggling with unbearable hunger and the fear of losing his humanity, Kaneki finds refuge at Anteiku, a café secretly operated by ghouls. Under the guidance of Yoshimura and Touka Kirishima, he starts learning how ghouls survive while living among humans. Meanwhile, the arrival of dangerous investigators introduces a new threat to the ghouls of Tokyo’s 20th Ward.

Episode Summary

Following his terrifying experiences with hunger and his confrontation with Nishiki Nishio, Ken Kaneki is taken in by the ghouls of Anteiku. The café’s manager, Yoshimura, offers him a place where he can learn to understand his new body without being forced to hunt humans. Kaneki discovers that coffee is one of the few ordinary drinks ghouls can safely enjoy.

Yoshimura gives Kaneki food obtained without directly killing humans and encourages him to accept both sides of his existence. Although Kaneki remains uncomfortable with his transformation, he begins to realize that not every ghoul is a cruel monster like Rize.

Kaneki also starts working at Anteiku, where Touka teaches him how to behave naturally as a café employee. His first attempts are awkward, but the experience gives him a small sense of normality.

Meanwhile, two investigators from the Commission of Counter Ghoul, Kureo Mado and Kotaro Amon, arrive in the 20th Ward. Known as Doves among ghouls, they investigate recent ghoul activity and search for dangerous targets. Their presence creates fear within the local ghoul community, especially as Mado demonstrates his deep obsession with hunting ghouls.
